Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A Genre Scene, Possibly La Boïte Du Prestidigitateur ('The Conjurer'S Box') by Jean Siméon Chardin was auctioned at Christies in New York in June last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 50,000.00 – 70,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 28,000.00 (€ 26,745.63). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jean Siméon Chardin achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Basket Of Wild Strawberries in March last year with an auction result of EUR 24,381,400.00.
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit A Genre Scene, Possibly La Boïte Du Prestidigitateur ('The Conjurer'S Box') von Jean Siméon Chardin im Juni letzten Jahres bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 50.000,00 – 70.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 28.000,00 (€ 26.745,63) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Jean Siméon Chardin erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The Basket Of Wild Strawberries im März letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von EUR 24.381.400,00.
