Auction result well in line with expectations
In May 2007 Christies in London held the auction Maritime & Naval Battles (Pictures), which included the work The U.S. clipper Westward Ho cracking along in the trade winds by John Bentham-Dinsdale. The price achieved of GBP 2,640.00 (€ 3,884.94) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Bentham-Dinsdale - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work H.M.S. Crescent, under the command of Captain James Saumarez, capturing the French frigate Réunion off Cherbourg, 20 October 1793, which sold at auction in March 2017 for GBP 8,125.00 (€ 9,521.70).
Crescent, under the command of Captain James Saumarez, capturing the French frigate Réunion off Cherbourg, 20 October 1793 beobachtet, die im März 2017 für GBP 8.125,00 (€ 9.521,70) versteigert wurde.
