Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by John Mecray could be acquired at Christies in New York in December 2000 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Maritime auction, the work Reliance the 1905 Herreshoff America's Cup defender changed hands for USD 235.00 (€ 250.32) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 800.00 – 1,200.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Mecray achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Reliance off Sandy Hook lightship in July 2006 with an auction result of USD 13,200.00 (€ 10,341.59).
