Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Knowledge strangling Ignorance by John Roddam Spencer Stanhope was sold in the British Art on Paper auction at Christies in London in June 2008. The price achieved of GBP 52,850.00 (€ 66,804.17) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 40,000.00 – 60,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Roddam Spencer Stanhope achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Penelope in December 2017 with an auction result of GBP 645,000.00 (€ 725,853.02).
