It achieved a price of USD 337,500.00 (€ 288,018.43), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 69%. Admittedly, works by Katsushika Hokusai have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Kanagawa oki nami ura (Under the well of the Great Wave off Kanagawa) [“Great Wave”|AID1099960] in March this year with an auction result of USD 2,760,000.00 (€ 2,538,631.35).

Die Arbeit Gaifu kaisei (Fine wind, clear weather) “Red Fuji” von Katsushika Hokusai wurde im September 2020 in der Auktion Japanese and Korean Art bei Christies in New York versteigert. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von USD 337.500,00 (€ 288.018,43) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 69%. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Katsushika Hokusai auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Kanagawa oki nami ura (Under the well of the Great Wave off Kanagawa) [“Great Wave”|AID1099960] im März diesen Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 2.760.000,00 (€ 2.538.631,35).
