An oban tate-e print, titled along the left margin Teradomari no yau (Evening Shower at Teradomari) from the series Tabi miyage dai nishu (Souvenirs of Travel, Second Series) depicting in the foreground a lone man hunched beneath a straw raincoat, reminiscent of Hiroshige, heading home in the torrential rain along a deserted path, walking past dimly lit timber-built inns, dated Taisho ju, hachi, nijushichi (27 August, Taisho 10 [1921]), published by Watanabe Shozaburo, with a round Watanabe seal at the bottom right corner; signed Hasui with the artist's pre-earthquake diamond Kawase seal. 38.5cm x 26.5cm (15 1/16in x 10 3/8in).

Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Kawase Hasui achieved an unexpectedly high price at Bonhams in London in November 2021. In the Tradition Travel TransitionJapanese Art across the Centuries auction, the work Taisho era (1912-1926), dated 1921 sold for GBP 9,562.50 (€ 11,227.27) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 4,000.00. Admittedly, works by Kawase Hasui have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Hiraizumi Konjikido (Konjiki Hall At Hiraizumi) in September 2021 with an auction result of USD 75,000.00 (€ 64,783.62).
Oberer Schätzpreis um mehr als 100% übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Kawase Hasui erzielte im November 2021 bei Bonhams in London einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Tradition Travel TransitionJapanese Art across the Centuries wurde die Arbeit Taisho era (1912-1926), dated 1921 für GBP 9.562,50 (€ 11.227,27) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 4.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Kawase Hasui auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Hiraizumi Konjikido (Konjiki Hall At Hiraizumi) im September 2021 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 75.000,00 (€ 64.783,62).
