Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Western Union Messenger #55 by Lewis Wickes Hine was auctioned at Phillips in an online auction in February this year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 1,000.00 – 2,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 882.00 (€ 831.92). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Lewis Wickes Hine achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Mechanic And Steam Pump, 1921 in April 2021 with an auction result of USD 275,000.00 (€ 228,595.18).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Western Union Messenger #55 von Lewis Wickes Hine im Februar diesen Jahres bei Phillips in einer Online-Auktion versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 1.000,00 – 2.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 882,00 (€ 831,92) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Lewis Wickes Hine erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Mechanic And Steam Pump, 1921 im April 2021 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 275.000,00 (€ 228.595,18).
