Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Marc Chagall achieved an unexpectedly high price at Bonhams in New York in November 2020. In the Impressionist & Modern Art auction, the work Stage curtain for Mozart's 'The Magic Flute' (Finale) sold for USD 990,312.50 (€ 828,852.11) - well above the upper estimate of USD 450,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Marc Chagall achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Les Amoureux in November 2017 with an auction result of USD 28,453,000.00 (€ 23,914,103.21).
