This artwork by Marten van Valckenborch I achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in July 2018. In the Old Masters Day Sale auction, the work Allegory of Summer(?): an extensive landscape with peasants harvesting grapes and wine-making, a village beyond sold for GBP 50,000.00 (€ 56,060.99) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 20,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Marten van Valckenborch I - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work An extensive river landscape with peasants haymaking, a view of Arenberg Castle beyond, which sold at auction in December 2003 for GBP 117,250.00 (€ 166,069.26).
Oberer Schätzpreis um mehr als 100% übertroffen
