Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
The work Portrait of Boy, 1940 by Max Meldrum was worth AUD 12,300.00 (€ 7,339.83) to a buyer in August this year. This price was achieved in the auction Important Australian Art at Bonhams in Sydney and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of AUD 4,000.00 many times over. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Max Meldrum - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Pacé, which sold at auction in May 2001 for AUD 47,000.00 (€ 28,172.21).

Die Arbeit Portrait of Boy, 1940 von Max Meldrum war einem Käufer im August diesen Jahres AUD 12.300,00 (€ 7.339,83) wert. Dieser Preise wurde in der Auktion Important Australian Art bei Bonhams in Sydney erzielt und übertraf den zuvor angesetzten oberen Schätzpreis von AUD 4.000,00 um ein Vielfaches. Für andere Arbeiten von Max Meldrum mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Pacé beobachtet, die im Mai 2001 für AUD 47.000,00 (€ 28.172,21) versteigert wurde.
