Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work 'Cutty Sark' by Montague Dawson was auctioned at Christies in New York in April 2016, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 12,000.00 – 18,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 6,250.00 (€ 5,462.81). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Montague Dawson achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The action between H.M.S. Shannon and the U.S.S. Chesapeake,1st June 1813 in February 2006 with an auction result of USD 486,400.00 (€ 407,882.60).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit 'Cutty Sark' von Montague Dawson im April 2016 bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 12.000,00 – 18.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 6.250,00 (€ 5.462,81) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Montague Dawson erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The action between H.M.S. Shannon and the U.S.S. Chesapeake,1st June 1813 im Februar 2006 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 486.400,00 (€ 407.882,60).
