In December 2011 Sothebys in New York held the auction Israeli & International Art, which included the work Safed by Mordechai Levanon. The »bidding war« ended at USD 10,625.00 (€ 8,190.09), 33% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Mordechai Levanon - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Hurba Synagogue, Safed, which sold at auction in April 2002 for USD 21,150.00 (€ 23,494.78).
