Auction result misses estimated price range
In November 2008 a collector was able to acquire the work 'Hogarth Painting The Comic Muse', 1758 by William Hogarth for EUR 332.00. This price was achieved in the auction Old Master and 19th Century Drawings at Artcurial in Paris and was even below the estimate range of EUR 400.00 – 500.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Hogarth achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Pugilist: A Quarterstaff Player, almost certainly James Figg (1684-1734) in December 2020 with an auction result of GBP 375,000.00 (€ 418,908.42).

Im November 2008 konnte ein Sammler die Arbeit 'Hogarth Painting The Comic Muse', 1758 von William Hogarth für EUR 332,00 erwerben. Dieser Preis wurde in der Auktion Old Master and 19th Century Drawings bei Artcurial in Paris erzielt und lag noch unterhalb der von dem Auktionshaus angesetzten Schätzpreisspanne von EUR 400,00 – 500,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von William Hogarth erzielen.
