Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Payment of the Tithes by Peter Brueghel II was sold in the Old Masters Evening Sale auction at Christies in London in December 2019. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 400,000.00 – 600,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 431,250.00 (€ 509,687.03) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Peter Brueghel II achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Battle between Carnival and Lent in December 2011 with an auction result of GBP 6,873,250.00 (€ 8,231,687.76).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit The Payment of the Tithes von Peter Brueghel II wurde im Dezember 2019 in der Auktion Old Masters Evening Sale bei Christies in London versteigert. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 400.000,00 – 600.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 431.250,00 (€ 509.687,03) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Peter Brueghel II erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The Battle between Carnival and Lent im Dezember 2011 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 6.873.250,00 (€ 8.231.687,76).
