The work Death appearing to a Wedded Couple from an open Grave by Rembrandt van Rijn was worth GBP 44,100.00 (€ 50,801.51) to a buyer in December this year. This price was achieved in the auction The Sam Josefowitz Collection: Graphic Masterpieces by Rembrandt van Rijn at Christies in London and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of GBP 8,000.00 many times over. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Rembrandt van Rijn achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of a lady, aged 62, perhaps Aeltje Pietersdr. Uylenburgh, wife of Johannes Cornelisz. Sylvius, half-length, in black costume and a cap and collar in December 2000 with an auction result of GBP 19,803,750.00 (€ 31,547,196.55).

Dieser Preise wurde in der Auktion The Sam Josefowitz Collection: Graphic Masterpieces by Rembrandt van Rijn bei Christies in London erzielt und übertraf den zuvor angesetzten oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 8.000,00 um ein Vielfaches. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Rembrandt van Rijn erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Portrait of a lady, aged 62, perhaps Aeltje Pietersdr. Uylenburgh, wife of Johannes Cornelisz.
