This artwork by Rembrandt van Rijn achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in December this year. In the The Sam Josefowitz Collection: Graphic Masterpieces by Rembrandt van Rijn auction, the work Bearded Man, in a furred Oriental Cap and Robe: the Artist's Father? sold for GBP 32,760.00 (€ 37,738.26) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 18,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Rembrandt van Rijn achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of a lady, aged 62, perhaps Aeltje Pietersdr. Uylenburgh, wife of Johannes Cornelisz. Sylvius, half-length, in black costume and a cap and collar in December 2000 with an auction result of GBP 19,803,750.00 (€ 31,547,196.55).

Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Rembrandt van Rijn erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Portrait of a lady, aged 62, perhaps Aeltje Pietersdr. Uylenburgh, wife of Johannes Cornelisz.
