RUFINO TAMAYO (1899-1991) Busto en rojo signed 'R Tamayo' (lower right); numbered '88/100' (lower left) Mixografía® in colors, on handmade paper 26 ½ x 33 ¾ in. (67.3 x 85.7 cm.) Executed in 1984. Edition 88 of 100 plus 20 artist's proofs and 10 handling copies. Published by the Taller de Gráfica Mexicana, Mexico City.
Auction result well in line with expectations
In March this year Christies in New York held the auction Latin American Art Online, which included the work Busto en rojo by Rufino Tamayo. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 3,276.00 (€ 3,013.25) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Rufino Tamayo achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work America in November 2008 with an auction result of USD 6,802,500.00 (€ 5,358,830.94).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im März diesen Jahres führte Christies in New York die Auktion Latin American Art Online durch, in der auch die Arbeit Busto en rojo von Rufino Tamayo zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 3.000,00 – 5.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 3.276,00 (€ 3.013,25) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Rufino Tamayo erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit America im November 2008 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 6.802.500,00 (€ 5.358.830,94).
