Shiro Kasamatsu (1898-1991)
a woodblock print, 'Hot Spring in the Morning, Nozawa, Shinshu', 1933, signed Shiro and sealed Shiro saku; and three further prints, 'Rising Moon at Nezu Shrine', 1932; 'Pagoda in Evening Rain, Yanaka', 1932; and 'Morning Calm Ajiro Promontery, Izu', 1933, the three signed and sealed Shiro and stamped Made in Japan to verso, all published by Watanabe Shozaburo -- 15½in. x 10½in. max. (39.3cm. x 26.6cm.) including the margins. (4)

This artwork by Shiro Kasamatsu achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in May 2008. In the Chinese & Japanese Art auction, the work Unknown sold for GBP 1,750.00 (€ 2,226.08) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Shiro Kasamatsu - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Snow At The Stone Garden (Yuki No Ishiniwa), which sold at auction in November 2019 for GBP 4,750.00 (€ 5,577.66).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 75 % übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Shiro Kasamatsu erzielte im Mai 2008 bei Christies in London einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Chinese & Japanese Art wurde die Arbeit Unknown für GBP 1.750,00 (€ 2.226,08) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 1.000,00. Für andere Arbeiten von Shiro Kasamatsu mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Snow At The Stone Garden (Yuki No Ishiniwa) beobachtet, die im November 2019 für GBP 4.750,00 (€ 5.577,66) versteigert wurde.
