Artwork auctioned at four times the upper estimate price
When the work Lyne by William George Gillies was auctioned at Sothebys in London in November 2020, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 600.00 but the actual price achieved was more than four times as high at GBP 2,772.00 (€ 3,094.49). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William George Gillies achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Spotted Leopard in April 2007 with an auction result of GBP 24,000.00 (€ 35,139.09).
