In January 2003 Christies in London held the auction THE COLLECTION OF MONSIEUR AND MADAME GERALD BAUER, which included the work Lymington: unloading a timber ship by Thomas Hearne. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 8,126.00 (€ 12,445.89), 16% above the upper estimate. Other works by Thomas Hearne have achieved even higher prices, we observed the highest auction result so far of GBP 12,925.00 (€ 21,669.06) in May 2001 for the work Elegant figures rowing on the the River Wear before Lumley Castle.
