Upper estimate price exceeded by 41 %.
The work Grand Canyon by Thomas Moran was sold in the The American Scene including Important Photographs from the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation auction at Sothebys in New York in May last year. The »bidding war« ended at USD 352,800.00 (€ 328,767.12), 41% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Moran achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Green River of Wyoming in May 2008 with an auction result of USD 17,737,000.00 (€ 11,399,100.26).
