A top price for Thomas Sewell Robins
This artwork by Thomas Sewell Robins achieved an unexpectedly high price at Bonhams in London in October last year. In the The Marine Sale auction, the work Studies of the cutter yacht Cygnet, one showing her beating Vision at the Southampton Regatta in 1848; the other with Cygnet winning the Queen's Cup at Cowes in 1849, a pair each 54 x 76.8cm (21 1/4 x 30 1/4in). (2) sold for GBP 49,440.00 (€ 57,597.05) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 20,000.00.
