In December 2013 Christies in London held the auction The Japanese Aesthetic, which included the work Oji Shozoku-enoki omisoka no kitsunebi New Year's Eve Foxfires at Nettle Tree, Oji, from the series Meisho Edo hyakkei One Hundred Views of Famous Places of Edo, signed Hiroshige ga and published by Uoya Eikichi by Utagawa Hiroshige. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 2,750.00 (€ 3,307.82), 53% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Utagawa Hiroshige achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Tokaido gojusan tsugi no uchi (The fifty-three stations of the Tokaido) in September 2002 with an auction result of USD 207,500.00 (€ 210,041.50).
