This artwork by Utagawa Hiroshige achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in July last year. In the Masters of the Woodblock: Important Japanese Prints auction, the work Oki Province: Takuhi Shrine (Oki, Takuhi no yashiro) sold for GBP 8,190.00 (€ 9,780.31) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 3,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Utagawa Hiroshige achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Tokaido gojusan tsugi no uchi (The fifty-three stations of the Tokaido) in September 2002 with an auction result of USD 207,500.00 (€ 210,041.50).
Oberer Schätzpreis um mehr als 100% übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Utagawa Hiroshige erzielte im Juli letzten Jahres bei Sothebys in London einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Masters of the Woodblock: Important Japanese Prints wurde die Arbeit Oki Province: Takuhi Shrine (Oki, Takuhi no yashiro) für GBP 8.190,00 (€ 9.780,31) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 3.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Utagawa Hiroshige erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Tokaido gojusan tsugi no uchi (The fifty-three stations of the Tokaido) im September 2002 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 207.500,00 (€ 210.041,50).
