The work Sudden Shower over Shin-Ohashi Bridge and Atake (Ohashi Atake no yudachi) by Utagawa Hiroshige was sold in the Masters of the Woodblock: Important Japanese Prints auction at Sothebys in London in July last year. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 138,600.00 (€ 165,513.02), 39% above the upper estimate. Other works by Utagawa Hiroshige have achieved even higher prices, we observed the highest auction result so far of USD 207,500.00 (€ 210,041.50) in September 2002 for the work Tokaido gojusan tsugi no uchi (The fifty-three stations of the Tokaido).
