Auction result well in line with expectations
In September last year Christies in New York held the auction Japanese and Korean Art, which included the work Sumidagawa Hashiba no watashi kawaragama (Hashiba ferry and the kilns at Sumida River) by Utagawa Hiroshige. It changed hands for a price of USD 2,772.00 (€ 2,833.49) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of USD 2,000.00 – 3,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Utagawa Hiroshige achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Tokaido gojusan tsugi no uchi (The fifty-three stations of the Tokaido) in September 2002 with an auction result of USD 207,500.00 (€ 210,041.50).
