Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Kuwana, The Story of the Sailor Tokuzo by Utagawa Kuniyoshi was sold in the From Artist to Woodblock: Japanese Prints Online auction at Christies in London in June 2017. It changed hands for a price of GBP 1,750.00 (€ 1,992.92) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 1,400.00 – 1,800.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Utagawa Kuniyoshi achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Mitsukuni Defying The Skeleton Spectre Conjured Up By Princess Takiyasha (Souma No Furudairi Yokai Ga Shadokuro To Tatakau Oya Notarou Mitsukuni) in November 2019 with an auction result of GBP 200,000.00 (€ 234,848.90).

Die Arbeit Kuwana, The Story of the Sailor Tokuzo von Utagawa Kuniyoshi wurde im Juni 2017 in der Auktion From Artist to Woodblock: Japanese Prints Online bei Christies in London versteigert. Dabei wechselte sie für einen Preis von GBP 1.750,00 (€ 1.992,92) den Besitzer und erzielte damit ein Ergebnis im oberen Bereich der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 1.400,00 – 1.800,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Utagawa Kuniyoshi erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Mitsukuni Defying The Skeleton Spectre Conjured Up By Princess Takiyasha (Souma No Furudairi Yokai Ga Shadokuro To Tatakau Oya Notarou Mitsukuni) im November 2019 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 200.000,00 (€ 234.848,90).
