This artwork by Utagawa Kuniyoshi achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in July 2018. In the From Artist to Woodblock: Japanese Prints Online auction, the work Sakata Kaidomaru (Kintaro) fighting a giant carp sold for GBP 1,625.00 (€ 1,821.98) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 900.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Utagawa Kuniyoshi achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Mitsukuni Defying The Skeleton Spectre Conjured Up By Princess Takiyasha (Souma No Furudairi Yokai Ga Shadokuro To Tatakau Oya Notarou Mitsukuni) in November 2019 with an auction result of GBP 200,000.00 (€ 234,848.90).

Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Utagawa Kuniyoshi erzielen.
