Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Danish interior With A Marble Niche by Vilhelm Hammershøi was sold in the 19th Century European Paintings auction at Sothebys in London in May 2016. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 500,000.00 – 700,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 509,000.00 (€ 664,191.29) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Vilhelm Hammershøi have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Stue (Interior with an Oval Mirror) in May last year with an auction result of USD 6,300,000.00 (€ 5,870,841.49).
