WALTÉRCIO CALDAS (b. 1946) Untitled signed and dated 'Waltercio Caldas 97' (on verso) acrylic, vellum and paper collage on Schoellershammer board 11 3 ⁄ 8 x 18 1 ⁄ 8 in. (28.9 x 46 cm.) Executed in 1997.
Auction result misses estimated price range
When this work without title by Waltércio Caldas was auctioned at Christies in New York in March this year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 6,000.00 – 8,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 2,520.00 (€ 2,317.88). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Waltércio Caldas achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Azul de Superfície in November 2012 with an auction result of USD 98,500.00 (€ 75,710.99).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als diese Arbeit ohne Titel von Waltércio Caldas im März diesen Jahres bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 6.000,00 – 8.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 2.520,00 (€ 2.317,88) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Waltércio Caldas erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Azul de Superfície im November 2012 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 98.500,00 (€ 75.710,99).
