Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Wen Zhengming achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Hong Kong in October 2004. In the FINE CLASSICAL CHINESE PAINTINGS AND CALLIGRAPHY auction, the work Twelves Poems On Scenes of Xishan In Running Cursive Script Calligraphy sold for HKD 657,250.00 (€ 66,209.71) - well above the upper estimate of HKD 300,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Wen Zhengming achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Poems In Large Running Script in May 2019 with an auction result of HKD 83,227,500.00 (€ 9,525,364.61).
