This artwork by William Meadows achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in February 2002. In the BRITISH AND CONTINENTAL PICTURES auction, the work Vessels on a venetian canal by a bridge, a capriccio sold for GBP 1,527.50 (€ 2,492.73) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 700.00. Admittedly, works by William Meadows have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work On The Grand Canal, Venice, Before The Fall of The Tower; And Santa Maria Della Salute, Venice in May 2005 with an auction result of GBP 15,600.00 (€ 23,030.50).
