Calligraphy in Running / Standard Script
A set of four hanging scrolls, ink on paper, the fourth scroll with a dedication to Ziting (Fang Junyi 方濬益/濬頤, 1815-1899), and signed Weishu Zhao Zhiqian, with an artist's seal reading Zhao Zhiqian yin, with three collectors' seals reading Yulou Pan ding, Cao Zhongying and one illegible.

This artwork by Zhao Zhiqian achieved an unexpectedly high price at Bonhams in New York in September 2021. In the The Reverend Richard Fabian Collection of Chinese Paintings and Calligraphy III auction, the work Calligraphy In Running / Standard Script sold for USD 275,312.50 (€ 237,809.88) - well above the upper estimate of USD 120,000.00. Admittedly, works by Zhao Zhiqian have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Flowers In Classical Style in November 2013 with an auction result of HKD 15,640,000.00 (€ 1,482,845.80).

Dieses Kunstwerk von Zhao Zhiqian erzielte im September 2021 bei Bonhams in New York einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion The Reverend Richard Fabian Collection of Chinese Paintings and Calligraphy III wurde die Arbeit Calligraphy In Running / Standard Script für USD 275.312,50 (€ 237.809,88) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 120.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Zhao Zhiqian auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Flowers In Classical Style im November 2013 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von HKD 15.640.000,00 (€ 1.482.845,80).
