Artist statement
Korvin Reich was born in Verden/Lower Saxony in 1970. In 1989, he began studying German and English at the University of Hamburg before going on to study Fine Arts at the Berlin University of the Arts (now Universität der Künste Berlin / UdK Berlin) in 1996.
In 1998, he received the Berlin Senate Administration’s working scholarship for Berlin authors in the poetry genre.
In 2002, he graduated as a master student of the University of the Arts and was named master student par excellence of the Karl Hofer Society. He has lived and worked as a freelance artist in Wernigerode since 2018.
In 2011 he was artist in residence at the artist’s house La Escosesa, Barcelona, in conjunction with a group exhibition Exposició Síntesi at the FAD Exhibition Hall, Barcelona. In 2015 and 2019 he was one of the prize winners in the poetry competition of the “Bibliothek Deutschsprachiger Gedichte”. In addition to numerous personal exhibitions throughout Germany, for example in Berlin, Magdeburg and Munich, he has participated in many group exhibitions, also abroad.
He has published poetry and short prose in anthologies as well, and in 2021, a collection of all his poems. In 2021, he received first prize in the “Emergenz” competition from the “Förderverein für kulturelle Bildung in Eichenau e.V.”, as well as several months of project funding from the “Investitionsbank Sachsen-Anhalt” in 2021 and also in 2023.
In 2024, the Saxony-Anhalt State Representation in Berlin organized an extensive solo exhibition. He was also nominated for a three-month residency scholarship at the “Kunstverein Röderhof” by the Art Advisory Board of the State of Saxony-Anhalt.
The drawings from “Project π” formed the basis for the stage projection in the ballet production “PI” by Miro Magloire and the New Chamber Ballet from New York to the composition and sound installation by C. René Hirschfeld: “π – sound of infinity”.
