Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work The S.S. Morro Castle of the Ward Line at Sea by Antonio Jacobsen was auctioned at Bonhams in New York in November 2020, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 6,000.00 – 8,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 5,355.00 (€ 4,481.92). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Antonio Jacobsen achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Racing Schooners in September 2011 with an auction result of USD 224,500.00 (€ 166,926.91).
