Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Fra Bartolommeo achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in January 2021. In the Old Master Drawings auction, the work Study of a female head looking to the left sold for USD 163,800.00 (€ 134,981.46) - well above the upper estimate of USD 65,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Fra Bartolommeo achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Madonna And Child in January 2013 with an auction result of USD 12,962,500.00 (€ 9,542,476.44).
