This artwork by Billy Al Bengston achieved an unexpectedly high price at Bonhams in Los Angeles in April 2021. In the Made in CaliforniaContemporary Art auction, the work Ka'ao Watercolor, 1984 sold for USD 9,562.50 (€ 7,948.88) - well above the upper estimate of USD 5,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Billy Al Bengston achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Lester, 1961 in February 2020 with an auction result of USD 548,075.00 (€ 497,120.18).
