The work L Duke 4 by Billy Al Bengston was sold in the Discovery on Sunset auction at Bonhams in January this year. The »bidding war« ended at USD 8,287.50 (€ 7,632.62), 38% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Billy Al Bengston achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Lester, 1961 in February 2020 with an auction result of USD 548,075.00 (€ 497,120.18).

Die Arbeit L Duke 4 von Billy Al Bengston wurde im Januar diesen Jahres in der Auktion Discovery on Sunset bei Bonhams versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 8.287,50 (€ 7.632,62) und damit 38% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Billy Al Bengston erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Lester, 1961 im Februar 2020 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 548.075,00 (€ 497.120,18).
