This artwork by Cornelis Ketel achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in April 2000. In the Old Master Pictures auction, the work Portrait of an elderly man, bust-length, in a jerkin and a red cloak sold for GBP 15,275.00 (€ 26,150.18) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 8,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Cornelis Ketel; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Allegory of the Foolishness of the World sold at auction in April 2017 with the realized price of USD 56,250.00 (€ 51,629.19).
