When the work The light shineth in the darkness and the darkness comprehended it not by Evelyn de Morgan was auctioned at Christies in London in December 2020, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 50,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at GBP 162,500.00 (€ 181,526.98). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Evelyn de Morgan - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Gloria in Excelsis, which sold at auction in December 2020 for GBP 622,500.00 (€ 695,387.98).

Als die Arbeit The light shineth in the darkness and the darkness comprehended it not von Evelyn de Morgan im Dezember 2020 bei Christies in London versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – GBP 50.000,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit GBP 162.500,00 (€ 181.526,98) mehr als dreimal so hoch. Für andere Arbeiten von Evelyn de Morgan mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Gloria in Excelsis beobachtet, die im Dezember 2020 für GBP 622.500,00 (€ 695.387,98) versteigert wurde.
