Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work The Ballet Rehearsal by Everett Shinn was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in March 2019, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 80,000.00 – 120,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 50,000.00 (€ 44,531.53). Admittedly, works by Everett Shinn have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Park Scene in November 2012 with an auction result of USD 332,500.00 (€ 255,572.64).
