Auction result misses estimated price range
In October 2004 a collector was able to acquire the work Armatare; Veduta Della Piazza E Basilica, E Piazza di S. Pietro In Vaticano; Autre Vuë Interieure Des Restes du Collége Supposé Des Anfictions: Three Plates by Francesco Piranesi for USD 358.50 (€ 281.26). This price was achieved in the auction Property from the Collection of Peggy N. and Roger G. Gerry, at Christies in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 3,000.00 – 5,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Francesco Piranesi achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Veduta Del Prospetto Principale Della Colonna Antonina in March 2017 with an auction result of GBP 12,500.00 (€ 14,648.77).
