Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait of Gertrude Russell by Frank Weston Benson was auctioned at Christies in New York in May 2012, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 1,000,000.00 – 1,500,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 962,500.00 (€ 778,469.75). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Frank Weston Benson - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Reader, which sold at auction in November 2016 for USD 2,887,500.00 (€ 2,729,722.06).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Portrait of Gertrude Russell von Frank Weston Benson im Mai 2012 bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 1.000.000,00 – 1.500.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 962.500,00 (€ 778.469,75) den Besitzer. Für andere Arbeiten von Frank Weston Benson mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit The Reader beobachtet, die im November 2016 für USD 2.887.500,00 (€ 2.729.722,06) versteigert wurde.
