Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Grapes, peaches, a fig and a passion fruit in a Wan-Li porcelain bowl, a half-peeled lemon on a pewter platter, and a façon-de-Venise wine glass, on a partly-draped wooden table; and A pie and a cut lemon on pewter platters, a façon-de-Venise wine by Frans Ykens was sold in the Old Master & British Paintings Day Sale auction at Christies in London in July 2012. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 30,000.00 – 50,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 32,450.00 (€ 41,332.58) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Frans Ykens - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Grapes on the vine, whitecurrants, blackberries, cherries and a walnut in a porcelain bowl with peaches, grapes and a walnut on a wooden table ledge with a large white butterfly, which sold at auction in December 2002 for
