Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%

This artwork by Gerard van Kuijl achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in July 2020. In the Classic Art Evening Sale: Antiquity to 20th Century auction, the work Philoctetes on Lemnos sold for GBP 299,250.00 (€ 333,790.58) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 100,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Gerard van Kuijl; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot A Musical Party sold at auction in January 2016 with the realized price of USD 442,000.00 (€ 408,050.22).

Dieses Kunstwerk von Gerard van Kuijl erzielte im Juli 2020 bei Christies in London einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Classic Art Evening Sale: Antiquity to 20th Century wurde die Arbeit Philoctetes on Lemnos für GBP 299.250,00 (€ 333.790,58) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 100.000,00. Trotz des guten Ergebnisses ist dies nicht der höchste Zuschlag für ein Kunstwerk von Gerard van Kuijl; den erzielte unter den von uns beobachteten Auktionen die Arbeit A Musical Party im Januar 2016 mit dem Hammerpreis von USD 442.000,00 (€ 408.050,22).
