Auction result well in line with expectations

The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 200,000.00 – 300,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 209,100.00 (€ 170,276.87) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Gustave Courbet achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Femme Nue Couchée in November 2015 with an auction result of USD 15,285,000.00 (€ 14,471,690.97).

Die Arbeit Jeune fille dormant von Gustave Courbet wurde im April 2003 in der Auktion 19th Century European Art including Barbizon, Realist and bei Christies in New York versteigert. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 200.000,00 – 300.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 209.100,00 (€ 170.276,87) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Gustave Courbet erzielen.
