IMPORTANT OLD MASTER PAINTINGS PART I, Lot 21
26. JAN - 26. JAN 2005
Estimate: 30.000 - 50.000 USD
Price realised: 33.600 USD
Hans von Aachen (Cologne 1552-1616 Prague)
Portrait of a young man, bust-length, in a dark coat
oil on panel
18 x 13 7/8 in. (45.7 x 35.3 cm.)

Auction result well in line with expectations

In January 2005 Christies in New York held the auction IMPORTANT OLD MASTER PAINTINGS PART I, which included the work Portrait of a young man, bust-length, in a dark coat by Hans von Aachen. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 30,000.00 – 50,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 33,600.00 (€ 25,749.10) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Hans von Aachen achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Pan and Selene in December 2010 with an auction result of GBP 241,250.00 (€ 279,849.27).
