In July 2018 Christies in London held the auction 19th Century European & Orientalist Art, which included the work Bomschuiten in the breakers by Hendrik Willem Mesdag. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 52,500.00 (€ 58,864.04), 50% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Hendrik Willem Mesdag have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Marée Bas in April 2001 with an auction result of NLG 895,000.00 (€ 410,788.26).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 50 % übertroffen
Im Juli 2018 führte Christies in London die Auktion 19th Century European & Orientalist Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit Bomschuiten in the breakers von Hendrik Willem Mesdag zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 52.500,00 (€ 58.864,04) und damit 50% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Hendrik Willem Mesdag auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Marée Bas im April 2001 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von NLG 895.000,00 (€ 410.788,26).
