Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Marine by Hendrik Willem Mesdag was auctioned at Christies in New York in October 2020. It changed hands for a price of USD 175,000.00 (€ 150,253.28) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of USD 120,000.00 – 180,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Hendrik Willem Mesdag - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Marée Bas, which sold at auction in April 2001 for NLG 895,000.00 (€ 410,788.26).

Die Arbeit Marine von Hendrik Willem Mesdag kam im Oktober 2020 bei Christies in New York zur Auktion. Dabei wechselte sie für einen Preis von USD 175.000,00 (€ 150.253,28) den Besitzer und erzielte damit ein Ergebnis im oberen Bereich der Schätzpreisspanne von USD 120.000,00 – 180.000,00. Für andere Arbeiten von Hendrik Willem Mesdag mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Marée Bas beobachtet, die im April 2001 für NLG 895.000,00 (€ 410.788,26) versteigert wurde.
