The work Portrait of Admiral Samuel Graves (1713-1787), three-quarter-length, in naval dress, his right hand resting on an anchor by James Northcote was sold in the Maritime Art auction at Christies in London in May 2012. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 8,750.00 (€ 10,902.12), 25% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by James Northcote have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait Of Admiral William Waldegrave, 1St Baron Radstock (1753-1825) in November 2007 with an auction result of GBP 46,100.00 (€ 64,551.93).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 25 % übertroffen
Die Arbeit Portrait of Admiral Samuel Graves (1713-1787), three-quarter-length, in naval dress, his right hand resting on an anchor von James Northcote wurde im Mai 2012 in der Auktion Maritime Art bei Christies in London versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 8.750,00 (€ 10.902,12) und damit 25% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von James Northcote auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Portrait Of Admiral William Waldegrave, 1St Baron Radstock (1753-1825) im November 2007 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 46.100,00 (€ 64.551,93).
